True Friends Prove It When Times Are Tough

So many people go through life thinking they all of these great friends until they hit hard times and then the vast majority of those folks run away so fast it’s not even funny. So why does this happen? Frankly to be a friend in good times takes no investment of time and energy. On the other hand, when things are tough those times do require time and investment.

This leads us to one question and only you can answer that for yourself.

The question is which kind of friend are you ?

Spiritual Loneliness Can Be Hard

Sometimes, it is just hard plain and simple in our spiritual journey. You read scripture and pray daily, and nothing seems to be happening. Honestly, that is how I have been feeling the last few days. I suspect part of it has been certain major life events but there seems to be more going on that I just don’t understand. So as I sit here alone on this October morning I wonder if today is the day that this all becomes clearer. All I know about my life is that the only thing that brings me pure joy and peace is talking about Jesus. Nothing else comes close.

Thief In The Night Are You Ready?

Many believers through the years have heard the quoted scripture from 1 Thessalonians 5 : 2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. Sounds simple and somewhat tripe but it’s not because that is not all of what 1 Thessalonians has to say.

However, when we go back to 1 Thessalonians 4 we find further guidance in verses 4-11.

Live to Please God

Finally, dear brothers and sisters,[a] we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body[b] and live in holiness and honor— not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife,[c] for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

But we don’t need to write to you about the importance of loving each other,[d] for God himself has taught you to love one another. 10 Indeed, you already show your love for all the believers[e] throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more.

11 Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. 12 Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

So he will come back like a thief in the night the question is are you following the words of chapter 4 or not?

Questions Each Day

When we wake up each day, we can consider what answers we will need to get through that particular day. Frankly, that is a waste of time and energy. I know you would be better off if that time was spent reading scripture and praying.

I know many of us find it easy to excuse the lack of time for reading scripture and praying. This brings up one question. I think this is best expressed here

1 Thessalonians 5:2

For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

So it’s a given that the end times are near so wouldn’t make sense to be in scripture and prayer instead of looking for answers elsewhere?
